    My go-to garlic is crushed/minced jarred garlic from my local Asian stores. It's much finer than the minced garlic in regular stores and has a better flavor (and can often be found with the only preservative being citric acid). Very helpful video!

    Great video however, just as a bit of constructive feedback, please could you drop the volume of the background music (or even better, lose it altogether) as it’s so distracting and makes it difficult to listen to you properly.

    In winter, look for Campari tomatoes. They’re larger than cherry tomatoes but smaller than your standard tomatoes. And, best of all, they actually taste good in the winter!

    Hi Julie, thank you for your amazing recipes. I cook for one so I watch my food budget carefully. I buy frozen stir fry vegetables on special, always have frozen onion, fresh corn off the cob (steamed and frozen), spring onions (green onions) cut with herb scissors and frozen. I buy capsicums (peppers) on special, cut and freeze them so l always have vegetables on hand for a stir fry. For chicken (I don't eat meat) I will buy chicken breasts (or tenderloins) on special, cook them in an instant pot or airfryer and freeze them in meal size portions. I keep all my asian sauces in the fridge once opened and I do use crushed garlic (also buy that on special). I find I am able to do a wide range of meals so, as you said, I am not eating the same meal for 4 nights in a row. I only use spray oil as I find that goes much further and pouring oil from a bottle. I hope this helps your viewers, who are finding food so expensive now. If I want to extend the meal to 2 serves (I also have a sister who lives on her own opposite me) I will add noodles and this makes enough for the two of us. Please continue on with your great work. Best wishes for a wonderful New Year, Beth

    My new go to will be picking up smaller quantity of protein from the deli. I am so tired of making one dish and eating it twice a day for the week. I always end up throwing away the last two to three portions. Meanwhile by just working on my dinner for eight all week, other things have gone bad and need to be thrown out. I hope to avoid waste in the future.

    Hi Julie! I love your channel. I also own a Breville Control freak. It is the most precise and best performing( also the most expensive)induction burner out there at the moment. However, this product is not aiming at home chefs. It's meant to be used by pro chefs in restaurants. For its price, home chefs expect a little more such as WiFi, recipe guidance, a touch screen like Thermomix's. Don't get me wrong. I like my Control Freak but wouldn't recommend it to people. I do think precision cooking is the future!! If I were them, I would keep an eye on these newer companies( KitchenAutomatique and Typhur), particularly KitchenAutomatique who's making a similar but more advanced product for home chefs.

      Agree completely - Farmers Markets or open produce/bulk bin sections in markets can help bc we can use reusable bags or containers but it is so hard to avoid packaging. Buying meat in bulk & dividing or keeping in the freezer or buying big bags of frozen fruit/veg you can scoop out of is another way. Hope those ideas help!

    • @Julie_Hartigan
      @Julie_Hartigan 2 роки тому

      That’s so true! If it’s better to buy bigger then def make sure to get veggies & things you can cook or freeze (accounting for the food we throw out as a cost is important too) That’s also why I love the snack sizes when I can - frozen fruit & veggies in bulk are great too. In all honesty I don’t have a set grocery budget but these days I might start one!
